Services — Further development
Further development of an existing application
Not every project starts from zero. I regularly take over an existing application — from an original developer, another agency, or an internally built system — to build on it purposefully. I first dive into the codebase and data model to determine what's solid and where the risks are, before adding new functionality or improving existing parts.
Why further development
No unnecessary rebuilds
Where possible I build on what's already there, instead of redeveloping everything from scratch — that saves time, budget and risk.
Codebase analysis before building
First I map out the architecture, technical debt and risk areas, so new functionality gets added on a stable foundation.
Works with any stack
Laravel, WordPress, Next.js or another PHP or JavaScript codebase: I take over projects regardless of who originally built them.
Also standalone, alongside a maintenance plan
Further development can run as a standalone track, or ongoing combined with maintenance so the application stays secure and up to date while new functionality is added.
What I build
- Codebase and data model analysis of an existing application
- New functionality built on an existing foundation
- Taking over projects from a previous developer or agency
- Refactoring of risky or outdated parts
- Adding API integrations to an existing system
- Ongoing maintenance alongside further development
Sound like your project?
From first conversation to launch — I'd love to think along on your project around further development.
Frequently asked questions
Good Questions
Setting expectations before we start, with a real process and honest answers.
That happens often. I read through the codebase myself to understand how the application works, and document what's needed for the next step along the way.
I usually start with a short codebase analysis, after which I can give a realistic estimate of scope and timeline for the desired extensions.
That depends on the state of the codebase. I give honest advice on this: sometimes further development is clearly cheaper, sometimes a partial rebuild is the wiser choice in the long run.
